SSI’s mission is to enable future server market growth by standardizing interfaces between components, including boards, chassis, and power supplies, and by developing common server hardware elements.

Executive Board

Jim Ryan, ChairmanJim Ryan, Chairman

As a high-tech industry veteran, Chairman Jim Ryan brings to the SSI Forum more than 35 years of experience in developing and managing Special Interest Groups (SIGs). In addition to managing SIGs, Jim has experience in software development, software product management and high-performance data center networks. Since 2000, Jim has served as an initiative manager at Intel, where he formed the SSI Forum to drive server infrastructure standards for blade servers, power supplies and server boards and enclosures. Jim also formed the OpenFabrics Alliance to develop and promote interoperable software stacks for Remote Direct Memory Access interconnects for HPC and enterprise data centers. Prior to joining Intel, Jim spent time at Sequent (IBM), Bank of America and other high-tech online database companies. Jim completed his education with an MBA from U.C. Berkeley.

Tau LengTau Leng, Ph.D. – Vice-Chair
Tau Leng is the General Manager of HPC and Marketing, supervising Corporate Marketing and System Validation Groups at Supermicro. Besides managing a dynamic Marketing team responsible for Corporate Marketing strategies and worldwide sales program initiatives, Tau also leads diverse teams responsible for Systems Integration, Testing, and Quality Control. Tau’s area of technical expertise resides in High Performance Computing Clustering technology and datacenter architecture. Tau holds a B.S. degree in Mathematics from the Fu Jen Catholic University, an M.S. degree in Computer Science from Utah State University, and received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Houston.
